Multi-Nozzle Head and High-Speed Droplet Ejection
The S600's newly developed head contains 320 black nozzles (160 x 2) and 768 colour nozzles (256 x 3 colours), for a total of 1,088 nozzles. This maximizes the printing area for each head scan. It capable of approximately 12 million ejections per second. This realizes super-fast print speeds of 15 ppm for monochrome and 10ppm for colour, and allows even full-size A4 photo images to be printed in approximately 90 seconds*.

Four-Motor System
A four-motor system is used to provide individual drive motors for the paper-feed, carriage, auto feeder, and recovery mechanisms. This eliminates the need for switching between drives, and also serves to greatly improve printing speed.
New Paper-Feed Mechanism and Relay Feeding
The S600 is capable of consistent paper-feed, regardless of paper type, at a speed of approximately 25cm per second. It also allows "relay feeding", in which the next sheet is fed in before the sheet currently being printed has been ejected. This dramatically reduces the overall printing time for continuous printing.
Ultra-Small 5 PL Ink Droplets In All Colour-Printing Modes
The S600 incorporates New "MicroFine Droplet Technology", in which ultra-fine 5 pl ink droplets are ejected with precise control. The high ejection accuracy enables photo printing free of graininess, even when plain paper is used.
Precision Colour Dustribution Technology
"Single-pass bi-directional printing" - the fastest inkjet printing process. However, single-pass bi-directional printing using conventional print heads tends to produce uneven printing. This problem has been solved by Precision Colour Dustribution Technology, which uses a print head with two sets of colour nozzles arranged symmetrically in the sequences C-M-Y and Y-M-C. This eliminates tone differences between the forward and return passes, and ensures colour consistency. Futhermore, Canon has adopted this technology for draft setting printing. Not only does it provide even printing, it also enables the creation of high-density, high-contrast, high-quality prints, even in draft mode.
Super-High Resolution
The head has an actual pitch of 1200dpi, but precisely controls the ink droplets to achieve a printing resolution of 2400 x 1200 dpi.
High Intensity Colour and Pigment-Based Black Inks
All of the colour inks used in the S600 are newly developed High Intensity inks with greatly improved pigment-based ink boasting an OD value of approximately 1.5, ensuring crisp text printing. Light-fastness of more than 25 years is provided when the inks are used in combination with "Photo Paper Pro".
Separate Ink System
The S600 uses Canon Think Tanks System, which allows you to replace individual inks rather than buying a complete cartridge each time a colour runs out. Moreover, the accurate ink-level detectors in the cartridge warm you when ink levels are low so you need never run out of ink during a printing job.
Printer Driver Engineered for Photo Printing
Driver software includes Photo Optimizer, which corrects the tonal range of images captured with a digital camera. It also features a Stimulate Illustration function that easily transforms photos to illustrations. Monochrome Effects converts colour photos to sepia hues or other colour tones and can be used with the Illustration function to create very special effects.
